Back-to-School Fashion on a Budget
We know times are tough with COVID-19, but kids still want to look great going to school this fall. That’s why we asked our summer interns how they stick to a budget while they shop. Our two summer interns, Rachel and Lindsey, are avid shoppers. Both of our interns looks for ways to support sustainable clothing brands or thrift stores. Below are some places our interns recommend taking a look at to stick to your back-to-school outfit budget.
Online Second-Hand Stores
Take advantage of thrifting/resale apps! They are our intern’s go-to’s because (1) it is sustainable fashion and (2) there are filters on the app that allow you to filter size, category, color, etc. All thrifting/resale apps should be available in the app store on your cell phone or on Google as a website. Our intern’s recommendations are:
-
- Curtsy: Buy and sell clothes to a community of 100,000 young fashionistas.*
-
- And, Poshmark: Shop your favorite brands up to 70% off. 700,000 sellers. Virtual shopping parties. Buy and sell fashion. Categories: men, women, kids.*
*Company descriptions from the company websites.
RTP Stores
In the Raleigh-Cary-Durham, there are many in-person second-hand clothing stores that are perfect for back to school shopping. Our intern’s recommendations are:
-
- Plato’s Closet in Cary, NC
-
- Uptown Cheapskate in Raleigh, NC
-
- Once Upon a Child in Cary, NC
-
- The Salvation Army in Raleigh, NC
-
- Durham Rescue Mission Thrift Store in Durham, NC
-
- Cause for Paws in Raleigh, NC*
*This store specifically raises funds for unwanted animals in the Raleigh area to be fostered until adopted. Cause for Paws also has animal adoption times at their two Raleigh locations posted on their website.
