Insight from the Interns Pt. 1
Our summer interns are some of the brightest from NC State. We’ve decided to include a series from our two interns, Rachel and Lindsey. This first article was written by our marketing and operations intern, Lindsey Holt.
Lindsey is a junior in the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University. She is from Dunn, North Carolina which is just a short drive southeast of Raleigh. She is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. On campus, Lindsey is an ambassador for the Poole College of Management and she is a member of the American Marketing Association. Lindsey grew up around her grandpa’s small family business in her hometown and had a full time job there freshman year of college, so she appreciates and understands the values that Family Legacy upholds. She is interested in market research and brand management. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, going to the beach, and going to the theatre to watch plays/musicals.
Why I decided to Pursue Marketing, Lindsey Holt
When I was younger, I always thought that I was going to grow up and become a computer programmer because that is what my dad did and I wasn’t exposed to much else. I have always been an outgoing person who gets bored pretty easily so I realized in high school that maybe computer science was not the best option for me based on my skill set. I decided my junior year of high school that I wanted to pursue business because I had taken a few business classes in high school and was active in a business club that I loved.
So that is why I chose business in the broad sense, but when it comes to marketing there is a different reason. I love people. I do my best work when I am around others, I love hearing about how other people’s minds work, and I also just love to talk to others. Marketing is interesting to me because understanding how the human brain responds to different advertising strategies is fascinating. I want to be a part of something that gets people’s attention and learn what works for certain people and what does not work for other people. n I’m excited to see where this career path takes me in the future.
As for Family Legacy, I love working here because I get to use marketing strategies and apply them in real situations while also gaining a better understanding on the financial world. I think it is vital to have a good foundation in managing finances at a young age because a lot of people my age have no idea where to even start when it comes to investing, managing money, or how to save in general. I was certainly one of those people. Since I began working here in May, I have learned why starting a ROTH or TIRA is important to do early in life and what the differences are between the two/how it can affect your retirement.
